CBS News writers have ratified their new contract with the Writers Guild of America, voting 98% in favor of the agreement, which covers 500 news writers, editors, news desk associates, production assistants, graphic artists, promotion writers and researchers working in national and local TV and radio in New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Chicago.

"This very difficult to achieve contract is the product of a long mobilization effort by the guilds' members working at CBS," said Mona Mangan, executive director of the WGA East.

The contract runs through April 1, 2010.
